Load Balancing NFS

Hi, I would like to load balance an NFS mount on 4 servers, whereby 1 server will access one of the four. Will implement Virtual IP to provide high availability. However, using tcmdump, the SYN packet is being RST by the VIP.

Has anyone implemented this already? Tested the NFS using the direct IP, everything is working fine.
  • I can only speak about my experience with it. We attempted to perform NFS mounts using the Load balancer but as it turned out for us, it didn't work consistently. We managed to get it working applying the Wildcard Virtual and going with FastL4 Profile, but the problem started when the LTM had failed over and recovery was lost with some of the NFS mounts (Not all but some). Even when I turned on connection mirroring. So our case was we went direct via the Forwarding IP virtual, which is has been rock solid.

Of course this was for smaller NFS traffic. The larger one's we take on a completely different approach.

I know this is does not sound like a solution that you wanted to hear but I thought this might help you somehow

    Thanks,

  • I second Denny - use ARX here, which is purpose-built to virtualize NFS and CIFS. It's really impressive.
