License upgrade (F5-ADD-BIG-2200S) in HA active/standby BIG-IP

Hi community,

 

We run a pair of BIG-IP 2000 in an active/standby HA setup. To increase capacity we bought a license upgrade to BIG-IP 2200 (F5-ADD-BIG-2200S).

 

Can anyone tell me if there is an interruption in traffic processing while doing the license upgrade?

 

My plan is to:

 

  • perform UCS backup of both systems
  • upgrade the standby system first
  • check status
  • failover the traffic group to the standby system
  • check again
  • then perform the upgrade on the other node
  • failover the traffic group again
  • check again

Support told me that there is no guarantee that there will not be any traffic disruption...

    Thanks, I'll try it that way by taking one node offline for the license installation.

    If your doing the standby 1st there should not be an interruption, I would force it offline while doing the upgrade and after the upgrade/checkout then release it from offline and then do your failover. When you failover is when you might impact some connections but that depends on your implementation.
