If I may add, it looks like your getting LDAP traffic back and forth, so I doubt there's a networking issue. As Boneyard suggested, using the -Xs0 option in the tcpdump can shed some light on the LDAP itself. The very best tool though, in my opinion, is a WireShark capture. It'll break open the LDAP packets and show you exactly what each side is saying and should pinpoint exactly where the problem is.
