is the big-ip 5000 platform act as a layer 3 or layer 2 switch?

Hi everyone i wanna have something to ask reagrding F5 BIG-IP 5000 series platform the question is "is the platform act as a layer 3 or layer 2 switch? " i got trouble during connectivity with other cisco switches to assign the interface ip address if it is layer 3 device i can easily assign an ip address for each point to point ip addresses else i can use SVI.
