Intermittent 500 Internal Server Errors
Hi we are using BIG-IP 2000 with Software Version 11.6.0 Build 6.0.442. We are currently experiencing an intermittent issue with on of our pool members. Basically we get intermittent 500 Internal Server Error messages. Our website first points to Akamai Edge servers then back to our F5. We have confirmed that its not our members servers in the pool since accessing them by bypassing the F5 they work as expected. So it must be something between Akamai and F5. I did some reading on Akamai and they suggest we change the Pconn settings on our "origin" the load balancer to higher value as whats on Akamai. Currently on Akamai the Pconn setting is set to 600s how can i change the Pconn settings on F5 to a higher value? or has anyone experienced similar issue before and what was the solution?
Thank You

By default F5 load balances per TCP connection. If you utilize OneConnect on the VS that is utilizing Akamai, load balancing will be done per HTTP request instead of per TCP connection and this should alleviate any issues.

Does your monitor ever fail ? (Presuming you're doing a Layer 7 HTTP Check with a Recv 500 Disable string)
Or are you picking up the 500 error some other day ?
The application/server you're trying to connect to. Is there anything that suggests what would generate the 501 error, as 5XX Should be being generated by the server itself?

I had the same issue initially with Level3 CDN.
Solution was fairly simple One-connect + Universal persistence based on True-client-IP which is passed from Level3 edge servers to origin.
This thread should help with figuring out correct iRule
