iControl Total NOOB

I hate being such a noob, but I am at a loss. I have setup my box so that I can successfully execute any of the 4.x perl samples. The all respond as expected. Then the wheels come off. I find that ...

Yeah. IT tells me how to set up active perl, how to install SSLeay, and other stuff that I have already accomplished or don't need. I guess what I am looking for is the next step: how to start coding, from scratch. The video is all well and good for a VB programmer, but that is not me.
