I am planning to upgrade one of the VCMP guest F5 on a Host F5 and would like to know if I need to upgrade host F5 too.
I have a 7250 F5 Host device on which I have two VCMp guests created. One for Corporate and other for QA. I am planning to upgrade the QA F5 from BIG-IP 11.4.1 Build 675.0 Hotfix HF7 to 11.6 HF6. I was wondering if I need to upgrade the Host first and then do the guest or I can upgrade the guest directly.

You can upgrade Guest before upgrading Host. Remember to check license activation date.

I have VCMP's guest running on 12.1.0 HF1, 11.6.1 HF6, 11.6.0. On a host that is on 11.6.0. And this works fine. I actually dont know what is best practice for the host version. Tried finding a SOL about it. 12.1.0 HF1 has a bug on the host VCMP device the iApp menu disappears.

So the service check date should be same as license date ? What should be the service check date for 11.6

You should just reactive the licenses before upgrading. System > license > scroll down, click > re-activate > click Next (I usually pick manual but automatic works in most cases also)
Or there is a change after upgrading the config wont load because the license isnt activated.

Hi Odaah , one more thing I was comparing the service and license dates again and they are same on host and guest:
Guest: kan-qa-vf5-a
Sys::License Licensed On 2014/05/12 Service Check Date 2014/06/12
Host : kan-f5-7250v-a
Licensed On 2014/05/12 Service Check Date 2014/06/12

As long as Service Check Date > License Check Date for the code version to which you are moving, you should be fine. SOL7727
