We have bigip ltm units in HA pair.
how can I tell from logs that the unit was active for a period of time

Hi Chandru,
You could look for Active or the event ID 010c0019 in the /var/log/ltm files:
grep Active /var/log/ltm
zcat /var/log/ltm.*.gz | grep Active
