Jun 07, 2010you cannot really capture the actual shutdown or startup of your SERVERS using BIG-IP. You can set up monitors (for example ICMP ping or HTTP GET) which will periodically check the CONNECTIVITY between the BIG-IP and the nodes/servers. I.e. if a server suddenly stops responding to a ping command it could be because of many reasons, one of them is that it has been shut down, crashed, disconnected from the network either logically (somebody changed the firewall rules) or physically( somebody pulled the network cable out of the socket)
Assign a monitor to your Nodes (servers) and then periodically query the monitor status using LocalLB::NodeAddress->get_monitor_status.
