HA with vcmp guests
Did you sync from the new device to the group and overwrite the working device? There shouldn't be anything special that you need to do when setting up HA to avoid this and it isn't specific to vCMP.
The only thing I can think that might have done something like this is if you had automatic sync enabled. I've seen it overwrite working configs with blank configs on reboots and other things like that. At least they added the option to have it save to disk... Most engineers I work with all agree not to use automatic sync.
Luckily you had a backup, the first step in all of my implementations is to create a UCS and have a backout plan in case things go awry.
