GTM to give away Public IP address while monitoring the private LTM VS
Hello All,
I have a SETUP where GTM is configured to giveaway Public IP addresses for the users DNS query based on the Status of LTM Private IP VS. I have the LTM added as a Server object with its private IP address on the GTM box and established the Trust relationship between LTM and GTM for iQuery communication. LTM server object has bigip monitor bind to it.
Our Firewall is performing a NAT on the Public address to the private address of all the virtual servers.
I have few scenarios to discuss
1.) I have configured a Public Virtual Server under LTM Server object with "Address" as Public IP and "Translated Address" as Private LTM VS IP with a HTTP monitor associated with it. So my question is Which IP does the GTM monitor for Fetching the status of the Virtual Server object?
2.) I have configured a Public Virtual Server under LTM Server object with "Address" as Public IP and "Translated Address" as Private LTM VS IP with no monitor associated with it. So my question is how does GTM Fetch the status of the Virtual Server object? Does it use the bigip monitor associated with LTM server object for fetching the Virtual Server status.
3.) If it uses the bigip monitor information for the Virtual Server status, then I have an issue where GTM is not reflecting the correct status of my Public Virtual Server when the associated LTM Private IP VS is down. Is this normal?
4.) I have also tried the option of Virtual Server Dependency instead of Giving the Translated IP address while configuring the Public VS under LTM server object, but in this case my Public VS was always unknown? Does it sounds something normal
4.) What is the best way to configure a Public VS in the GTM with a LTM Private IP VS monitoring, for giving away Public IP address to users ? Is it recommended to configure as Generic Host Server object or is it advisable to configure it as a Virtual Server object under LTM Server object in the GTM box using the Public IP as Address and LTM VS Private IP address as Translated address (this would require Virtual Server Discovery set enabled (No-Delete). Other wise it will remove the Public VS we created manually under LTM server objects as this is not fetched from LTM.
Best Regards, Saneesh

Hi,
The point 1 is the only one to configure :
one external VS in server virtual servers without any monitor assigned...
the default behavior is GTM will use the bigip monitor defined in LTM server to request LTM status of VS.
LTM monitor application status and send it to GTM through iquery connection.
