GTM Server availability

I've created a GTM server that has addresses of the SelfIP of the LTM as below, gtm server US_CERT-US_CERT_Peer { addresses { 10.11.17.15 { device-name US_CERT } 10.11.17.16 { device-name US_CERT_Peer } } datacenter US monitor bigip product redundant-bigip virtual-servers { abc_vs { destination 10.11.12.13:https } } }

 

10.11.17.15 and 10.11.17.16 are self IP's on LTM, and 10.11.12.13 is a virtual on the LTM.

 

I can see successful iquerry responses on the GTM for both the self IPs. But when I do a "show gtm server US_CERT-US_CERT_Peer" the status section says "Availability : offline ; State : enabled ; Reason : Available" The VIP on the LTM is offline, I want to know if the Availability of a GTM SERVER is dependent on the status of the virtualserver behind it ?
