GTM iRules

Hi,

I would like to start writing irules for dns_requests to the GTM's, that define resolution based upon the source ldns address. For example, resolve internal addresses of pools of LTM Vs's if the request is known to come from an internal ldns server, or resolve translated addresses of a pool of LTM's vs's if internet ldns.

How easy is it to set extra options, such as load-balancing method, fallback hosts, and persistence in those rules?

Does anyone have experience of writing such rules, or any extended information that may help?

thanks.

Setting the persistence type and specifying a specific destination based on certain criteria (effectively acting as a fallback host) are relatively trivial. Changing the load-balancing method isn't something that's currently available in iRules, but you can forgoe the load balancing decision and direct traffic to the location of your choice by making decisions in the iRule itself with the information available.
