GTM: Express Zone vs. Slave Zone

I understand that the Express Zone feature in 11.x essentially allows the GTM to act as a high-performance authoritative DNS secondary

 

If I configure the zone simply as a slave, does the GTM provide the same performance features? I find it's nice to be able to view the RRs, just for troubleshooting purposes. I can see them when configured as slave, but not when doing express zones.

    Essentially configuring a zone as a slave will use BIND as the backend, while an express zone runs separately.
