gtm - wide ips and the use of cname/alias

Im pretty much dns ignorant. I understand enough to do what I need to do... with that said Im attempting to configure a GTM for my exchange servers for two different data centers.

The concept of needing to delegate a subdomain is important but I really dont understand why it is important when it is in the context of wide ips? Im definitely reading everything I can but if anyone can spend a few minutes and put it in a simpler perspective?

So what is the need of cnames if Im using owa.wip.xyz.com for two data centers when used in a wide ip configuration?

    Hi ,

CNAMES or ALIAS are created to shorten the FQDN instead of entering the complete URL .

i assume , Its not required in all casees to create a subdomain for a WIP , but most of the origanizations has multiple domains apart from the WIP subdomain .

Becase in few cases organization needs resolution from direct DNS server insted of GTM , so they create a subdomain so that they can get the resolution only required WIP names , not all.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks, SAM
