Firepass 600

Hi there

after searching all f5 resources i understand that the firepass600 (5.4.2) is not supported anymore.

id like to know if there is any further development on the system software, a chance to get newer version with new browser/client compatibillity for example firefox3 (Linux/Windows) and Mac (OSX/Iphone etc.) and Nokia Communicators.

Thanx for info

Florian
  • Hey Florian,

Wow...the good old FirePass 600! Haven't seen one of them in a long while. Florian the short answer is that the FirePass 600 was aged out a fair while ago as was support for the 5.4.x branch of software. The current latest release is 6.0.2 with the newest 6.0.3 release due out very soon (next month from what i hear). In order to run this new software which has support for stuff like iPhones, FireFox3, Windows Vista, etc you'll need to get a new box and upgrade to 6.0.3 on that new box. Given you're on a 600 platform now the closest platform would be the FirePass 1200 which is a 1RU box and scales up to 100 concurrent users. Check out - http://www.f5.com/pdf/products/firepass-hardware-ds.pdf for more details.

    Hope this helps you out!

  • Thanks for quick reply

got to talk with the boss then and discuss an upgrade to 1200, he's got his iPod last week and wants to connect to company network, how about symbian support in the 6.0.3 software will there be a client too?

  • Hey Florian,

Great work! I think you mean iPhone right? FirePass 6.0.3 has some very cool iPhone support coming and Symbian (Nokia) phones work well also. Both iPhone and Symbian are supported via Portal Access whereas Windows Mobile devices are supported using Network Access (if you get the extra license) as well as Portal Access.

  • iPhone ofcourse (where is my head?^^)

    Portal Access?

    Does that include vpn funktionality?

Our main need is to connect to an exchange server in cached mode (i hope the iPhone can do that at all :-) )

  • Hey Florian,

It's all SSL VPN but if you're talking about Network Access then i don't think that will run on an iPhone. Best to check with your F5 SE/Sales though. Have you seen SOL7812 on AskF5 (tech.f5.com)? It shows you how to setup your FirePass as an ActiveSync proxy which is very cool!
