failover port 2000 series how it works
I've configured 2 new 2600 LTM devices. I am not using network failover. I am using the crossover cable that came with the devices and have it connected into the failover port on each. Is there something else required to make that work? It shows the other device is disconnected when it shouldn't. However, when I connect a cable to port 4 and configure a VLAN for that interface with non floating self ips then the 2 devices see each other. That setup works just fine. But how do you make the failover port work? I've read older ports in here and people are having the same issue and I never see a fix.

I'll also mention when I run tmsh show sys failover cable it comes back as cable state 0 from the active device which is correct so I know I'm using the correct cable and there is communication on that cable.

I've also enabled network failover and it's still not working correctly. here's my results:
connectedconnected active standby yes disconnected connectedactive active no connecteddisconnectedactive standby yes disconnecteddisconnectedactive active yes
If I take hardwired completely out of the picture (b/c at this point I can't seem to get it working) and only use network failover both units show active. Hardwired is not required right?

Got it figured out. had to add the HA vlan ip and the mgmt. ip to device connectivity -network failover. And I was changing several options and forgot to enable network failover back so by adding those ips and enabling network failover now both hard wired and network failover works.

But still does not answer my original question of- how to use ONLY the hardwired failover port WITHOUT network failover.
you can only use the hardware cable for failover signalling, not for transferring information or syncing configuration.

To enable proper state reporting and mirroring, F5 recommends that you configure network failover in addition to hardwired failover.
