I fail ping the virtual server / self ip from other machines in the same network.

have you seen icmp when running tcpdump on bigip?

 tcpdump -nni 0.0 host x.x.x.x and icmp
x.x.x.x is self ip / virtual server ip

then nothing is even reaching the VS, are you connecting all devices to same switch,vlan.etc?
