Apr 28, 2009F5 Sync + Orion
hi,
Currently we have 2 F5 Big ips for redunancy and when config changes in Node 1 we sync it to node 2 aswell - Sync Recommended
We monitor the F5 with our NMS tool Orion 9.5 SP1
Orion sends alert saying that the F5 box has rebooted when synching
Is this a know issue and what happens when sync happens between the 2 nodes.
Is it really reboot the F5's or is there any OID which can help me say that currently synching is being done and F5 didn't reboot
Any documentation on using F5 with NMS
Thanks
Chandru

i would say you need to take a closer look at the OID that it's using.
I usually use OID for uptime SNMP tell me if the LTM rebooted and then there is another IOD that tells me if it failed over. The combination of the 2 overall tell me what happened.
Unfortunately, I don't monitor the sync status, because the indicator has not always been reliable (I.E. I run a script to archive the LTM and it states I have to sync when I never made changes). Our standard practice is that we sync before and after we make changes so it has never been issue for me to monitor.
Hope this helps,

Can you post the OID's you are using?

System Uptime (Using RAW OID)
OID: .1.3.6.1.4.1.3375.2.1.6.6
Index: 0
Primary/Standby (Using F5-BIGIP-SYSTEM-MIB)
iso/org/dod/internet/private/enterprises/f5/bigipTrafficMgmt/bigipSystem/sysGlobals/sysGlobalAttrs/sysGlobalAttr/sysAttrFailoverUnitMask
Starting OID:1
If the counter equals 3 then it's primary
If the counter equals 0 then it's Standby
Hope this helps

I don't have that. As I mentioned above I never monitored the Config Syc directly. - JRahm

Hi,
If i click on sync in F5 i get an alert from Orion stating that the F5 rebooted but it is not rebooted
Is there any way i could get the exact information and no false alerts?
