F5 SSL for SMPP Traffic (Non HTTP Traffic)

I have messaging gateway and content providers connect to it to send messages, I was asked to use SMPP over SSL/TLS to secure sent contents.

The clients are connected now via SMPP protocol (Short Message Peer-to-Peer), my goal is to encrypt sent contents and then configure F5 to decrypt the traffic same way as HTTPS SSL offloading.

Can F5 do this ? and if someone tried this before, do I need to change the client configuration to use SSL or it is a default behavior ?

Many thanks

  • SMPP is mentioned a few times on dev central, usually not with many replies

so i don't expect a lot of replies, so if it was me i would just try.

first try with unencrypted, see if that works. start with encrypting one side (client or server), slap a SSL profile on it and see if it works.

Thank you so much for reply, yes you are right .. SMPP seems to be not so popular here ;-)

I may try it my self, but it is not easy as I need a lab .. I will try to setup one
