Apr 09, 2013F5 LTM VE in HA mode
Hi,
I am currently evaluating LTM VE for vCloud environment. I went through some of the LTM VE documents.
In order to deploy LTM VE in HA mode, I have to create and run two instances of LTM VE(VMs) using F5 LTM VE templates in vCloud environment. Write DRS rules so that each VM will run in separate Host.
For this how many licenses of LTM VE should I buy? one or two?
Please confirm and correct me if my understanding is wrong.
Thank You,
Hari

- To run an HA pair you need two licenses.
Note that LTM VE should not be vMotioned while passing traffic, ideally you should migrate it between hosts for maintenance etc. by using HA failover with VE.

Thanks for the reply.
Since I am running the LTM VE in vCloud environment, what is the need of running it in HA mode? Because Since it will be running in vCloud environment, vCloud will take care of VM live migration from one host to another in case of any failure or incident.
I understand during live migration there will be downtime/unexpected results of the application. But after VM movement it starts functioning as expected.
Apart from this will there be any advantages in going HA mode? Please list down and clarify.
Thank You,
Hari
