F5 APM Webtop - some resources not working on Mobile

Hi I'm a long time f5 user and lurker of Devc - thanks for all good questions & answers!

Just starting to work with APM - On my webtop I created a few resources, network access, rdp, and weblinks. On my access policy I'm not doing anything to detect type of browsers. On Desktop things work fine, but on mobile only the weblink displays. Can the other work on mobile? If so how? I can't seem to find any documentation on how things work for mobile for APM.

Unfortunately webtop is currently not supported on mobile devices. There is existing RFE for this. You may request to link to it.

  • Ah that would make sense.

What are my options then? I've read about the per app stuff for IOS, but that doesn't help us on android..

Is all we can do is use the edge client and provide network access for mobile?

    Thanks!

  • You can have a webtop with links and portal apps and use the mobile web browser to access the resources, to use network access you will need to use the edge client for your mobile device.

What type of things are you trying to give access to via the webtop and APM on a mobile device?

  • This is an old post, but hopefully someone's still watching? I am having a similar issue. I have a "Full Webtop" configured with 3 portal access and 1 RDP. Works on desktop. When you sign in via mobile browser, signin works, but the resulting page is just the F5 slash with no links. Should this be working?

  • RDP wont, it is based on browser plugins that aren't supported on several OSes.

portal access is less logical, you mean simple portal access resource to an internal website?

do you do any OS / device type checking in your policy?

  • are you using a full webtop or a portal access one?

which mobile OS, which browser? are you able to get others to test with different mobileOS / browser? which TMOS version?

i just checked and with chrome on android 4.4 im able to see the applications and links section with portal access resources fine.

  • Interesting.

    • Full Webtop
    • 11.3, HF 3 (we're going to upgrade to 11.6 soon)
    • iPhone 6+, 8.3 with Safari

I have a couple users doing Android testing for me now and will report their results when I have them.

  • i would try a portal access webtop just for the mobile users, the VPN won't work for them anyway without edge client, and see if the portal access resources appear on that one. im assuming that will be your "fix". unfortunately i dont have any mobile devices in my test environment to say this for sure.

  • With no changes on the F5 side, works on Android + Chrome, not on iPhone + Safari. :(

thanks for the feedback. you could have a test with the other type of webtop, but it might not work either. if you have a support contract i would certainly open a case on this, it seems something that should be documented.

Will do. We're in pilot phase, but when we purchase it for real, I'll have a ticket opened.
