F5 APM RDP java client blackscreen

Is there a known bug with the F5 RDP Java Client, certain clients when connecting only receive a Black Screen when accessing a terminal server via an F5 APM RDP connection. We have experienced this with Windows 8.1 virtual machine client using both Chrome and Explorer. Windows 7 seems to be fine.

There have been reported problems with this in the past but that was with Firepass, I can't see any documented issues with.

  • It sounds like the java applet isn't running. I'll have to check my VM's later and report back.

  • We currently have the same issue. I have two completely separate HA pairs and it happens the same on either if I try to use the Java client for RDP.

-Just a black screen if I have it set to Full Screen

-Any other screen size (percent or pixel defined) and it hangs on the F5 Initizing in the web browser window.

-I can reproduce this in Firefox on Windows 7 Windows 8.1 Ubuntu and OSX. As well as IE in Windows 7 and 8.1 Desktop Mode.

-I have tried using Java Versions 6, 7 and all the way up to 8 40 with same thing.

-If I add J2D_D3D=false to the clients run time environment it just hangs on the Java Spinning Loading Wheel

Don't use Java Client for Windows Machines and you should be ok. I've now got a Client OS detection in the VP which will assign an RDP resource to Windows machines that do not use Java, besides you get further options for the non-Windows clients. Just need to amend the Client OS to add the Windows 10 client string and I'm all good.

I only mentioned the windows clients to show that it happenes on all OS' The Default ActiveX/RDP app works great for windows. But I need to be able to support my Linux and Mac clients and at this time Java seems to be the only way. (Unless there is an HTML5 ot Flash app that I don't know about)

I'm seeing the same thing using Java 8_43 on Mac, but oddly this just started a couple of days ago. Linux/Mac Java RDP had been working fine in our environment. Any solutions out there? We are running 11.5.3 HF2 currently.
  • I have experience the same issue too. The way I have work around is to set up an RDP session with 90% screen size. But this is a work around. The odd thing is that if you doing screen sharing with GOTOMEETING to the workstation trying the RDP. You can see the RDP screen but the user can only see a black screen. Also if you hit shift enter then the user can see the screen too when the size gets reduce
