F5 and RDP Farm

Hello!

Thanks in advance for the help. I hate to beat a dead horse it seems but i am having issues using F5 to load balance a 2 node RDP farm.

I have followed the http://www.f5.com/pdf/deployment-gu...ces-dg.pdf. The steps i followed were for scenario 1.

nodeA: 192.168.1.11

nodeB: 192.168.1.12 (also is used as a host broker)

Farm name: rdpfarm (dns resolves to the F5 Virtual IP that i specify below.)

F5 Virtual Server ip: 192.168.1.20

When i try to use the hostname "rdpfarm" in the remote desktop gui i am unable to connect. i see the connection attempts in the F5 staticits for the virtual server i created but i also see the drops.

Any ideas?

it seems like the F5 never forwards it to the pool i created within the F5 device.

    Thanks

    Hi windex,

Are your pool members up, and is the pool assigned as the default pool for your VIP?

  • Hi Mikeshimkus,

sorry for the delay in reply. The pool is up and i can reach them directly but while using the farm name which points to the F5 i never get a connection. The F5 notices the connection but i see my attempt dropped eventually.

So, you see connections to the virtual server, but not the pool members? Or are the connections reaching the pool members but then being reset for some reason? You may need to run a tcpdump during the failure to get an idea of what's going on:

  • As far as i can tell without a tcpdump it makes it to the F5 but it seems that it stops at the F5 and doesnt get forwarded to the pool servers.

like you recommended...i think it is time for some tcpdumps..
