F5 - virtual server doesn't respond to ping request

Hi,

I created a few virtual servers on F5 on my lab environment, I did it by the following steps: * created a monitors. * added the nodes. * created the pools and add to them the monitor and the nodes. * created the virtual servers and associated them the pools.

on my "Network Map" I can see there are all up, But, when I ping to my virtual servers IP's , they don't respond.

Can you help to troubleshot it - cause I didn't figure it out why.

  • Is there a firewall in between you and the your lab F5? It is possible that ICMP is not allowed. Can you telnet to your VS's on the ports the VS's are enabled on?
  • Check that icmp is enabled on the virtual addresses. Local Traffic>Virtual Servers>Virtual Address List. It should be enabled by default.

  • Hi,

My lab environment is separated from my Lan, it's in a different port in the FW, also a different vlan. but I configure a policy that the all the range address in my Lan to all range in my lab will be open, and in service i chose "Any".

** the ICMP is enabled. I try the "tracert", and i see that that ts success to get to the defaulte Getway IP in the FW - and from there it can't reach to the VS IP.

  • It's beginning to sound like the problem is outside the LTM configuration. Can you ping/tracert to other hosts on the lab network? Can you ping the LTM self-IP? From the LTM cli can you ping the FW interface or other hosts on the network?

Additional things to check in the LTM configuration:

    1) Check that arp is enabled on the virtual addresses (it is by default)

    2) Check that the the virtual servers are enabled on the LTM vlan where you are trying to reach them (virtual servers are enabled on all vlans by default) 3) Check virtual server/address statistics to see if any traffic is reaching them

  • This could be because of this: https://support.f5.com/kb/en-us/solutions/public/16000/200/sol16284.html
