Enterprise Manager shows different statistics numbers than BIG-IP appliance
Hi all,
I was wondering if somebody could explain me how to compare the throughput stats between F5 EM (3.1.1-HF4) and F5 BIG-IP (11.5.3).
We run monthly capacity reports on the F5 EM and the throughput numbers of July have dropped by 90% (compared to previous reports - May peak = 2141 Mbps, Jun peak = 1672 Mbps, Jul peak = 23 Mbps !). There was no big change on the LTM configuration of the BIG-IP applicance which could explain this. However, we upgraded F5 EM (from 2.3.0 to 3.1.1) and F5 BIG-IP (from 11.2.1 to 11.5.3) end of June and the numbers have changed since then.
I assume there was a change in the way the EM software calculates the data from the BIG-IP. Therefore I tried to compare the current (3hrs, 1day) throughput numbers between EM (Standard Device Profile, 60sec interval) and BIG-IP (Dashboard view). The dashboard view shows peaks of 1100 Mbps. But the current value is much smaller (about 8 to 23 Mbps).
On the EM the current stats (Device Stats rule) of Global: Client/Server: Bits In/Out are showing values between 200 Kbps and 500 Kbps. Even if I add all four metrics I don't get the same value as shown in the BIG-IP dashboard. What did I miss?
How do I align the EM numbers with the BIG-IP numbers (which are in a range we got in the reports before upgrade).
Any hint is much appreciated. cheers

[update] Talked to F5 support in the mean time. They've confirmed the issue (PVA traffic not contributing to the collected Throughput Statistics). They have divided this issue into two - one is the missing PVA traffic statistics in the Global Traffic statistics (introduced on the LTM since 11.4.0). The other is Enterprise Manager not collecting and including PVA statistics in it's statistics. Resolution of these issues should be made in the next major TMOS release. I'm awaiting an Engineering Hotfix based on LTM 11.5.3-HF2 and hope to give a positive feedback once installed. - MichaelM

[update] Problem has been solved by Engineering Hotfix HF2-ENG26 (11.5.3.2.26.196). Related BugID 543220 is not covered by a Solution Article and won't be referenced on AskF5 until it is included into a Release or Hotfix. It should be flagged for any future 11.5.x releases. - MichaelM

BugID 543220 is listed in 11.5.4 Release Note "Global traffic statistics now includes the correct PVA statistics in the GUI and in TMSH." :-)
