db connection timeout

Client is getting connection timeout error while connecting to db. Setup is as below Client -- fw-- F5 performance layer 4 VIP -- app server --fw-- db

 

Idle timeout on fastl4 VIP is 30 min. And fw is enabled for all connections. Question is what else config is missing on f5 to have connection timeout. Is persistancy required on VIP? Or any other settings?

    Forwarding VIP is not needed on F5, as connection to DB from app server is not through F5

    Idle timeout of 30 min should keep the connection going for some time, how frequent is the connection failing and on what interval.

     

    You could suspect the firewalls as well. Capture packets end to end, it will tell you the problem.
