Mar 11, 2010Customizing the default properties of a Virtual Server
I'm wondering if it's possible to customize the default properties of a new virtual server. For example when I create one using the GUI, by default it is enabled on all VLANs. I'd like to customize the defaults so that all new Virtual Servers are enabled only on two VLANs. Is there a config file that holds these default properties? I can't seem to find it.

Hi SMP,
You can do something similar with profiles by setting a new profile's parent to the customized one. However, there isn't an option for doing this with a VIP. It might be nice to have a GUI and/or CLI option that's similar to the parent option on profiles. You could suggest this to F5 in an RFE case. You could also build an iControl app which allows you to apply defaults to new config objects, but I'm guessing this isn't a viable solution if you just want to administer the the LTMs using the GUI.

Thanks Hoolio, that explains why I couldn't find it. I just opened an RFE case. - JRahm

This is something you could do in v10.1 at the cli with tmsh scripts.
