Copy a BIG-IP Image to the multiple managed BIG-IP devices through BIG-IQ

I could set up test vCMP guests and here is the test result.

 

Environment Setup/Pre-requisite

 

- BIG-IQ Version: 5.3.0

 

- Current BIG-IP Version: 11.5.4

 

- Target BIG-IP Version: 12.1.2 HF2

 

- BIG-IP Base and Hotfix image on the BIG-IQ

 

 

Basically Software Installations under BIG-IQ -> Devices -> Software Management is for installing BIG-IP software, no separate option only for transferring BIG-IP images. However we still can use this tool for transferring BIG-IP images before the actual BIG-IP installation. Here is the how.

 

 

1. Create a Software installation task
   • Choose Hotfix image if you want to copy the both of Base and Hotfix image
   • Choose Base image if you want to copy the Base image only
   • With options, check "Pause for pre and post installation assessment" and "Pause after the software image has been copied to devices". Check all if you want to continue using this task with actual installation.
2. Add devices where you want to transfer BIG-IP images to
3. "Save" or "Save and Close"
4. Run the task
   • Perform Pre-Assessment
   • When you see the "Image transfer completed" message, you have two option.

      

     Option 1: "Request Cancellation" - Image transfer is completed. you simply cancel the further process.

      

     Option 2: Click "Cancel" located right-bottom of the page. You can keep the task and reuse it later when you are ready with BIG-IP installation.
