Cannot connect to Virtual Server using RDP

Hi everyone,

I am really new to the whole F5-thing and I have this problem I am unable to solve. The thing is, I want to establish a Virtual Server with a pool of real servers. And I want to connect to those real servers using the Microsoft Remote Desktop Connections and typing in the virtual server, so that the load balancer will connect me to one of those servers. I have read the manual for "Deploying the BIP-IP System with Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Terminal Services" I found here:

http://www.f5.com/pdf/deployment-guides/wts-bigip9-dg.pdf

So I have my pool with 2 servers, just for testing. Both with the Service Port 3389 and the tcp Health Monitor.

And I have the Virtual Server with the default persistence profile msrdp and Service Port 3389 enabled.

But when I try to connect to the virtual server using the Microsoft Remote Desktop Connections I get the following error:

"The client could not connect to the remote computer.

Remote connections might not be enabled or the computer might be too busy to accept new connections. It is also possible that network problems are preventing your connection.

Please try connection again later. If the problem continues to occur, contact your administrator."

I know that the virtual server is there somewhere, because I get the error that there is no such server, when I type in a server name, that doesn't exist.

Also I can connect directly to the servers in the pool, just the connection through the virtual server does not work.

Could there maybe anything I didn't configure correctly, or some issue I didn't think about?

Please excuse any lack of information of knowledge, because this is really the first time I work with the F5 load balancers.

Thank you for your help in advance
  • There could be a number of things why this doesn't work. It could be something not obvious or obvious, but I think it might be wise to simply have F5 Support to assist at this stage.

  • If your BigIP is on a one-arm installation, make sure that you have your snat pool set to autosnat.
