Binary to base64 conversion

Hello, I have already created some csr's on the F5 via command line, and have requested the cert keys from another source. They have issued and sent them to me in a text files containing binary content, instead of .cer files containing base64 content.

How can I convert the binary .txt files to base64 .cer files please?

Thank you.

Mk.

  • Assuming they sent you DER format, you can use openssl to convert it as follows:

openssl x509 -inform der -in certificate.cer -out certificate.pem

If it isn't DER(maybe pfx or p7b) you can visit this website for all the conversions you might need

  • Your response is much appreciated....

They sent them as text files containing binary format - I am not sure how that relates to DER format? Regarding openssl x509 -inform der -in certificate.cer -out certificate.pem, why is it converting to .pem format? Doesn't the F5 want any cert keys that are going to be imported to be in .cer format with base64 content?

Thanks for this - https://www.sslshopper.com/ssl-converter.html. I had located this but was not sure exactly which options I required? I took it that the Type of Current Certificate would be DER/Binary, but was not sure which option to select for Type To Convert To?

    Thanks.

  • pem format is base64. I have no idea how to tell what your input format is, I would start with trying what I suggested as -inform der
