BigIP v9.x -> v10 Migration/Roadmap

Just as a point of reference, upgrading from v9 to v10 is a lot easier than migrating from v4 to v9, it's not a wholesale change like that was. You can pretty much roll your existing config forward in a similar manner to what you currently do within the 9.x branch.

Just got some deployments comming up soon, the business preference would be to stick with stable (maintenance) code (currently 9.3.x) but thats no use if it's now only valid a year from now.

 

 

Got a meeting with F5 later this week, will see what they say...

The latest word around here is that 9.3.x and 9.4.x both will be supported for *two* years, starting from the release of v10. I am not an official speaker for F5, though, and you should definitely check before relying on this information.

Our F5 account rep said 9.3.x would be supported for one year from the official release of v10. It would be good of someone could clarify this as it takes a lot of planning for our enterprise customers to implement upgrades to a new major version.

Ok... Had a meeting with my account manager and SE. What has been written above is true, in summary...

 

 

9.3.x - Bugfix/Patch support for 1 year from v10 announcement

 

 

9.4.x / 9.6.x - as above but for two years

 

 

Recommended current strategy is to move all units (LTM + GTM) to v9.4.6 (rumoured 9.4.7 soon). This will be valid for two year by which time v10 will mature.

 

 

This will start the new 2 yearly software cycle that F5 are proposing.

 

 

*Note: v10 hasn't officially been announced yet.
