BIG-IQ any value if you don't use it for config changes?
I am investigating the BIG-IQ mostly for the management of the F5 VE's to deploy, license and monitor BIG-IP VE's. The vip configs would still be managed by another tool. However I see value in having the configs for all the devices, either hardware or VE, being reported in the BIG-IQ. I understand it requires a rediscovery in order to see the changed configs. If that is truly the case in 6.0 and beyond, then big-iq only has value if you make all the changes through the BIG-IQ. Even if you did a rediscovery every day, the reporting data would always be out of sync with the devices.

So BIG-IQ is a management platform, for managing devices, deploying configs, viewing statistics etc. You can do all of those things with other methods - Ansible, Splunk etc.
Iirc it will soon be the case that you can just have the license manager as a standalone which you can run in a container or suchlike and it will be separate from BIG-IQ.
Having said that, if you have a lot of devices then BIG-IQ can be a very useful platform and licenses are pretty cheap so it can be worth deploying it anyway even if you only use it for backups etc
