It should not have a significant impact unless your system is very heavily loaded, but you may want to open a second SSH connection and use the 'top' program to observe the CPU usage.

'bigtop' command is not recommended for large and regular stats collections due to performance limitations.

You could use AVR or SNMP instead which can provide more granular stats without compromising performance
