Jan 04, 2010Big-IP 4100 - ASM => High Availability
My goal is to provide HA (high availability) on 2 web servers. One server is the slave, the other is the master. Requests are sent to the slave when the master is down.
How to get this behavior with my platform (Big-IP 4100, ASM only) ?
Is it really necessary for this to have a load-balancing license ?
Regards,
Vincent

Hi Vincent,
As Ido stated (Click here) you must have an LTM license for doing any load balancing. There isn't an option for LTM on the 4100 platform. For questions on platforms and licensing, you can contact F5 or an F5 partner.

Two VIPS, Two Pools and round robin DNS on the front side?
It's not using the ASM as an LTM, but it would get the job done. Of course both servers are active at this point, but if you are expecting an outage, then probably best that there is better fault tolerance.
