BIG IP 4000s V11.5: Different VS on each appliance on Active/Active cluster

Hello,

I wish to know if it was possible to have an active/active cluster with different VS active on each appliance in floating traffic group but with the same subnet; I explain:

   - VS1 is active on BIGIP1 with traffic-group-1 and if problem, VS1 failover on BIGIP2
   - VS2 is active on BIGIP2 with traffic-group-2 and if problem, VS2 failover on BIGIP1

But the VS1 and VS2 network is the same ! It is possible, knowing it's necessary to declare in SELF IP the associated traffic group ? Thanks a lot for help.

    Hello,

I wish to know if it was possible to have an active/active cluster with different VS active on each appliance in a floating traffic group but with the same subnet's for pool members, nodes and self IP; I explain:

       - VS1 is active on BIGIP1 with traffic-group-1 and if problem, VS1 failover on BIGIP2
       - VS2 is active on BIGIP2 with traffic-group-2 and if problem, VS2 failover on BIGIP1

But the vlan (so self ip) is the same to the pool members of VS1 and VS2 ! It is possible, knowing it's necessary to declare in SELF IP the associated traffic group ? Thanks a lot for help.

  • Ok, maybe my explanation is not clear .... I simplify:

Failover works there without floating IP in traffic group because in my case I have the same in the 2 traffic-group as nodes in VS are in the same vlan ?

    Thks

  • Yes, you can. No, it is not worth the trouble. You have to manually assign each virtual address (different from Virtual Server) to a traffic group. Okay if you have 2 LTMs and a hand full of VS, but a total pain if you have multiple LTMs and many VS.
