BIG-IP : apparent failure of request to reach irule

BIG-IP 11.4.0 Build 2384.0 Final

How can I diagnose an apparent failure of request to reach the irule ?

This is a very simple configuration :

virtual-server-external-01 destination host address = 10.22.0.55 service port = 80 http availability = available ( enabled ) default pool = pool-01 irule = irule-01

pool-01 nodes = node-01 monitor = monitor-01 availability = available ( enabled )

irule-01

priority 100 when HTTP_REQUEST { log local0. "HTTP_REQUEST received by irule-01"

on my client :

hosts 10.22.0.55www.mydomain.com

http://www.mydomain.com/blah

  • A few questions:

    1. Are you certain that your request traffic is getting to this VIP? If you perform a tcpdump capture on the external VLAN you should see your client talking to the VIP.

    2. If you see the traffic and the client and VIP are successfully handshaking, do you get to the application through the VIP?

    3. Presumably you have other iRules applied to this VIP. Might any of them have behave in a way that may preempt additional iRule processing?
