Single-stream TCP throughput (like a user downloading a big file) will generally slow down as latency (ping time) increases. In situations such as web browsing where many TCP channels are opened simultaneously, the impact is usually less severe. I'd suggest trying:
- Switch between DTLS and TLS modes to see if that makes a difference.
- Since the VPN uses software encryption on the client side, make sure that your users CPU is not too high while they require high VPN throughput.
- Make sure you have the latest Edge Client code. There have been many fixes over time that have greatly improved the speed.
- Enable TLS Dynamic Record Sizing to improve congestion handling: Dynamic Record Sizing
Enabling Dynamic Record Sizing is a new recommendation that we've recently had some success with at some sites (sometimes 20%+ improvement) and would like to better understand how it behaves in more real world situations.
