Best way to review past probe failures on select nodes

Hi - I would like to know of different suggestions to review past probe failures on select nodes. For example: if using SNMP, what platform/version and how did you set it up. Is there a specific OID ...

Hi!

 

Some suggestions:

 

  1. Use snmp traps and make the load balancer notify the snap server when a node goes down.

     

  2. Use syslog and capture node failures via a filter.

     

  3. Use snmp polling to check the node regularly.

     

  4. Write a script to analyze the logs in your backups.

     

Personally I think the sys logging is best since it updates in real time and you can create reports based on the data for whatever period you want. Ie splunk is fantastic, but expensive. There are open source alternatives too though.
