Oct 16, 2006auto-complete not working
Hi all,
I just installed iRule Editor ver 0.9.0.22 and the auto-complete is not working. Are there any known issues with this feature?
Thanks,
Bryan
BTW--I verified that the feature is turned on.

- The Editor uses a configuration file located in the %USERPROFILE%\Application Data\F5 Networks\iRuler directory titled iRuler.xml. This contains all the keywords for autocompletion. First thing I'd do is look and see if this file is there. If not, you can regenerate it in the editor with the "Tools.Reset Config" command. This will save a default config file to that location. If, after you do that, it still isn't present on disk, then odds are you have a permission problem in not allowing the file to be written to disk.
If the iRuler.xml file is on disk and you still don't have auto-complete working, let me know and I'll try to get you a debug build to diagnose what's causing the problem.

Thanks, Joe.
I verified the file is in the appropriate folder. Also, I am a local admin on the PC with rights to everything. Can you please provide the debug build or assist otherwise?
I will also try to uninstall/reinstall.
Thanks! - Can you verify one more thing. Is the keyword highlighting/hotspot clicking working?
If you type "when " does it turn when into a clickable link?
This will tell me whether the configuration file is getting read in correctly.
Odds are it's an issue with the 3rd party editing control we are using (scintillanet) if the hotlinks are working but the autocomplete is not.

Yes, the hyperlinks are available.
Bryan - I'm going to have to think about this one as the it's the same code that controls both the hotlinks and the auto-complete. I'll let you know if I can come up with something that isolates the two to test on your system.

Thanks, Joe,
Is there a legacy version of the iRule editor that may work for me in the meantime?
Bryan - The editor hasn't changed much since the first public release. The code with regards to interaction with the editing control hasn't changed at all.
This is odd as I haven't seen this issue reported at all by anyone yet.

I will try it on my home PC to test for similar results.
Would it be helpful if I posted the contents of the xml file? Maybe something is missing from it.
Thanks,
Bryan - If you reset the configuration then it overwrote the contents with the default values so sending me the file won't really help...
Let me know how it works on the home machine.

Joe,
I tried this at home and it worked fine. During the installation on my home PC, I was prompted to download something and to update the iRule editor. For some reason I am not being prompted for either of these during the installation from my work PC. When I manually initiate an "Check for Updates", it just hangs. I tried uninstalling and re-installing the editor but this didn't help.
This is clearly an issue with my PC at this point, but do you have any suggestions for workarounds?
Thanks for your help.
Bryan
