App Tunnel parameters
I have configured an App Tunnel, and the App Tunnel icon appears on a webtop. When a users clicks the icon, the App Tunnel is formed (user desktop listens on 127.0.0.5:80 and forwards packets to the BIG-IP) but the webtop does not open a new browser window/tab for the resource item that is configured in the App Tunnel.
For the resource item, the parameters field contains: http://%host%/

I found that adding "iexplore.exe" to the Application Path does open a new browser window when the Application Tunnel is launched.
Is it always necessary to include the Application Path, when the URI in the parameters field implies web destination?

It uses a Windows function to start an application, so it must be an application.
