AD authentication using multiple domain controllers

I'm try to configure my devices to utilize AD authentication, but I want to be able to query more than one domain controller for redundancy. I want to use a secure connection since I don't want my pwd out in clear text. Any suggestions for configuring this? I can make it work if I specify a single domain controller, but that leaves me depending on a single machine. I'd like to be able to utilize multiple machines.
