Active/Standby F5 routing between datacenters
Hi,
I'm thinking of consolidating our current F5 DMZ footprint (we have 5 DMZs with an active/standby pair at each site) into 2: One Active Viprion running at one site connected via L2 to the Standby Viprion running at a separate site.
Now my question is the following: Is it possible for the public IP's (for the Virtual Servers) to float between datacenters without the need for the advanced routing package for the F5s?
What I'm struggling to wrap my head around is how the routing would work if we did not make use of the advanced routing package (i.e. how would the F5 essentially advertise that the VS is no longer available at one site, and it's moved to another).

As long as you are using MAC Masquerade with your traffic groups then things should failover without significant traffic loss - no need for the ARM. On failover the MAC for each TG |(and the objects in it) simply moves from one site to another through standard L2 mechanisms/learning.
