4600 rSeries tenant resizing and HA Dependency

Consider there is an HA between 2 tenant.

rSeries Chassis 1 - Tenant1 - F5 VM ( Active F5 )

rSeries Chassis 2 -Tenant1 - F5 VM ( Standby F5 )

If Chassis 2 - Tenant 1 is resized for resource perspective ( cpu ) , and put the state into Deployed state , in F5 VM level , will it be automatically be part of HA or both tenant need to have same Hardware resource allocated  ?

  • Hello,

Assuming Chassis2 Tenant1 was already part of a HA configuration prior - adjusting its resource allocation [CPU|/Memory] should not impacts its HA.  Ideally you would want both tenants in a HA setup to have identical resource allocations, so you have deterministic performance during a HA failover event.

  • Hi,

I have had the exact same situation and after increasing # of CPU on Chassis 1 Tenant1 and deploying the tenant, the HA was problematic and logs showed that a HW mismatch occured.

After we tried to have Chassis 1 Tenant1 active, it always failed over to Chassis 2 Tenant1 with the original # of CPU. So the HA setup should work but you will be unable to use the tenant with increased/changed resource allocation as ACTIVE at least from my experience.

  • Tankfridgerator your experience is probably due to the Traffic-Group-configuration. With the appropriate configuration you can have a configuration with unequal hardware but as Jeffrey points out it might not be a very good idea.
