Problem this snippet solves: Next article describes an upgrade procedure to perform only using CLI commands. The idea is not to replace an official procedure, but to give a different approach for those guys who love using CLI and they want to execute an upgrade only using commands (without GUI access). The procedure is separated in 4 sections: Data Collection & Planning - for executing some days before the upgrade. Pre-Upgrade Tasks - for executing just before the upgrade (applies to all devices in the cluster). Upgrade Tasks - Only applies for one device in the cluster for each time (normally standby device). Post-Upgrade Tasks - for executing just after the upgrade (applies to all devices in the cluster). This procedure is valid for most of the BIP-IP set-ups: Standalone & clusters vCMP Host & vCMP Guests GTM/DNS Synchronization Groups Everything that helps to fix mistakes is great, so your comments are welcome. Problem this snippet solves: This is a simple cli script used to collect all the virtuals name, its VIP details, Pool names, members, all Profiles, Irules, persistence associated to each, in all partitions. A sample output would be like below, One can customize the code to extract other fields available too. The same logic can be allowed to pull information's from profiles stats, certificates etc. Update: 5th Oct 2020 Added Pool members capture in the code. After the Pool-Name, Pool-Members column will be found. If a pool does not have members - field not present: "members" will shown in the respective Pool-Members column. If a pool itself is not bound to the VS, then Pool-Name, Pool-Members will have none in the respective columns. Update: 21st Jan 2021 Added logic to look for multiple partitions & collect configs Update: 12th Feb 2021 Added logic to add persistence to sheet. Update: 26th May 2021 Added logic to add state & status to sheet. Update: 24th Oct 2023 Added logic to add hostname, Pool Status,Total-Connections & Current-Connections. Note: The codeshare has multiple version, use the latest version alone. The reason to keep the other versions is for end users to understand & compare, thus helping them to modify to their own requirements. Hope it helps. How to use this snippet: Login to the LTM, create your script by running the below commands and paste the code provided in snippet tmsh create cli script virtual-details So when you list it, it should Problem this snippet solves: This procedure allows you to decrypt a tcpdump made on the F5 without requiring access to the key file. Despite multiple F5 pages that claim to document this procedure, none of them worked for me. This solution includes the one working iRule I found, trimmed down to the essentials. The bash command is my own, which generates a file with all the required elements from the LTM log lines generated by the iRule, needed to decrypt the tcpdump in Wireshark 3.x. How to use this snippet: Upgrade Wireshark to Version 3+. Apply this iRule to the virtual server targeted by the tcpdump: rule sessionsecret { when CLIENTSSL_HANDSHAKE { log local0.debug "CLIENT_RANDOM [SSL::clientrandom] [SSL::sessionsecret]" log local0.debug "RSA Session-ID:[SSL::sessionid] Master-Key:[SSL::sessionsecret]" } when SERVERSSL_HANDSHAKE { log local0.debug "CLIENT_RANDOM [SSL::clientrandom] [SSL::sessionsecret]" log local0.debug "RSA Session-ID:[SSL::sessionid] Master-Key:[SSL::sessionsecret]" } } Run tcpdump on the F5 using all required hooks to grab both client and server traffic. tcpdump -vvni 0.0:nnnp -s0 host <ip> -w /var/tmp/`date +%F-%H%M`.pcap Conduct tests to reproduce the problem, then stop the tcpdump (Control C)and remove the iRule from the virtual server. Collect the log lines into a file. cat /var/log/ltm | grep -oe "RSA Session.*$" -e "CLIENT_RANDOM.*$" > /var/tmp/pms Copy the .pcap and pms files to the computer running Wireshark 3+. Reference the "pms" file in "Wireshark > Preferences > Protocols > TLS > (Pre)-Master-Secret log filename" (hence the pms file name). Ensure that Wireshark > Analyze > Enabled Protocols > "F5 Ethernet trailer" and "f5ethtrailer" boxes are checked. Open the PCAP file in Wireshark; it will be decrypted. IMPORTANT TIP: Decrypting any large tcpdump brings a workstation to its knees, even to the point of running out of memory. A much better approach is to temporarily move the pms file, open the tcpdump in its default encrypted state, identify the problem areas using filters or F5 TCP conversation and export them to a much smaller file. Then you can move the pms file back to the expected location and decrypt the smaller file quickly and without significant impact on the CPU and memory. Code : Please refer to the "How to use this Code Snippet" section above. This procedure was successfully tested in 12.1.2 with a full-proxy virtual server. Problem this snippet solves: The code will help you capture all client ssl profiles present on the bigip. For every client ssl profile that's there, it will pull its ciphers suite & if the client-ssl profile is referenced in any of the virtuals that's present, if the same clientssl profile is referenced in multiple places, the same will be captured as well. This code can be modified to serverssl profile and same can be captured vice-versa. How to use this snippet: Have to create a script file first. We shall use the /var/tmp/ directory. Use vi editor to create a file name virtual-clientssl-ciphers.sh command will be, vi /var/tmp/virtual-clientssl-ciphers.sh Then we copy our code from the snippet and place it on the file and save it. We simply use bash to run, bash /var/tmp/virtual-clientssl-ciphers.sh So the output will be on /var/tmp/virtual-clientssl-cipher.csv file. If you open it on excel, it will look like below, Code : #!/bin/bash echo "Virtual Server, Client-SSL Profile, Cipher" > /var/tmp/virtual-clientssl-cipher.csv profile_names=`tmsh list ltm profile client-ssl one-line | awk -F" " '{print $4}'` for x in ${profile_names} do ciphers=`tmsh list ltm profile client-ssl $x ciphers | grep ciphers | awk '{print$2}'` virtual_name=`tmsh list ltm virtual one-line | grep $x | awk -F" " '{print $3}'` if [ "${virtual_name}" != "" ] then for y in ${virtual_name} do echo "$y,$x,$ciphers" >> /var/tmp/virtual-clientssl-cipher.csv done fi done Tested this on version: 13.11.4KViews3likes3CommentsExport GTM/DNS Virtual Servers Configuration in CSV - tmsh cli script
Problem this snippet solves: This is a simple cli script used to collect all the virtual-servers name, its destination created in a server or ltm server. Note: When you paste it, the indentation may be realigned, it shouldn't cause any errors, but the list output would show improperly aligned. Feel free to delete the tab spaces in the code snippet & paste it while creating, so indentation is aligned properly. And you can run the script like below, tmsh run cli script gtm-vs > /var/tmp/gtm-vs-output.csv And get the output from the saved file, open it on excel. Format it & use it for audit & reporting. cat /var/tmp/gtm-vs-output.csv Feel free to add more elements as per your requirements. Problem this snippet solves: This is a simple cli script used to collect all the WideIP, LB Method, Status, State, Pool Name, Pool LB, Pool Members, Pool Fall back, Last Resort pool info in CSV format. A sample output would be like below, One can customize the code to extract other fields available too. Check out my other codeshare of LTM report. Note: The codeshare may get multiple version, use the latest version alone. The reason to keep the other versions is for end users to understand & compare, thus helping them to modify to their own requirements. Hope it helps. How to use this snippet: Login to the GTM/DNS, create your script by running the below commands and paste the code provided in snippet, tmsh create cli script gtm-config-parser Delete the proc blocks, so it looks something like below, create script gtm-config-parser { ## PASTE THE CODE HERE ## } and paste the code provided in the snippet. Note: When you paste it, the indentation may be realigned, it shouldn't cause any errors, but the list output would show improperly aligned. Feel free to delete the tab spaces in the code snippet & paste it while creating, so indentation is aligned properly. And you can run the script like below, tmsh run cli script gtm-config-parser > /var/tmp/gtm-config-parser-output.csv And get the output from the saved file, open it on excel. Format it & use it for audit & reporting. cat /var/tmp/gtm-config-parser-output.csv Feel free to add more elements as per your requirements. For version 13.x & higher, there requires a small change in the code. Refer the comments section. Thanks to @azblaster Code : proc script::run {} { puts "WIP,LB-MODE,WIP-STATUS,WIP-STATE,POOL-NAME,POOL-LB,POOL-MEMBERS,POOL-FB,LASTRESORT-POOL" foreach { obj } [tmsh::get_config gtm wideip all-properties] { set wipname [tmsh::get_name $obj] set wippools [tmsh::get_field_value $obj pools] set lbmode [tmsh::get_field_value $obj "pool-lb-mode"] set lastresort [tmsh::get_field_value $obj "last-resort-pool"] foreach { status } [tmsh::get_status gtm wideip $wipname] { set wipstatus [tmsh::get_field_value $status "status.availability-state"] set wipstate [tmsh::get_field_value $status "status.enabled-state"] } foreach wippool $wippools { set pool_name [tmsh::get_name $wippool] set pool_configs [tmsh::get_config /gtm pool $pool_name all-properties] foreach pool_config $pool_configs { set pool_lb [tmsh::get_field_value $pool_config "load-balancing-mode"] set pool_fb [tmsh::get_field_value $pool_config "fallback-mode"] if { [catch { set member_name [tmsh::get_field_value $pool_config "members" ]} err] } { set pool_member $err } else { set pool_member "" set member_name [tmsh::get_field_value $pool_config "members"] foreach member $member_name { append pool_member "[lindex $member 1] " } } puts "$wipname,$lbmode,$wipstatus,$wipstate,$pool_name,$pool_lb,$pool_member,$pool_fb,$lastresort" } } } } Tested this on version: 11.63.7KViews2likes6CommentsCisco ACE to F5 Conversion - Python 3
Problem this snippet solves: The goal of this script is to allow for automate migration from Cisco ACE to F5 LTM configuration. It is now a little bit old and have wanted to add to it and update it for a while but other projects have kept me busy so have made it public (Code can be found here https://gitlab.com/stratalabs/ace2f5-py) This have only tested on 11.x and some 12.x configuration and not all configuration items from a Cisco ACE configuraiton convert but you normally get a warning/alert on items you will need to do manually. How to use this snippet: Generate the F5 configuration: python ace2f5.py -f <ACE configuration input file> [-o <F5 configuration output file>] [-n NOT FULLY IMPLEMENTED (will disable out, i.e. validation to screen only] If no output file is defined will output to ACE configuration file name plue '.checking' Can also run and stay in Python CLI using the -i option e.g. python -i ace2f5.py -f <ACE configuration input file> After manually checking the output file run the following to generate a clean F5 TMOS configuration file with a .output extension. This .output is the file to be imported into F5 LTM python checking-output.py -f <ace2f5.py checking file> Tested this on version: 11.6749Views2likes1CommentBIG-IP v11 Citrix XenApp Monitor
Problem this snippet solves: This TMSH script quickly and easily creates a monitor for Citrix XenApp on an LTM BIG-IP V11. Instructions for importing and executing this TMSH script are found in the F5 deployment guide. The script takes three inputs, username, password and appname and then automatically calculates the POST Content-Length to create a customized, specialized monitor for your Citrix environment. Code : proc script::help { } { tmsh::add_help "Create a monitor for Citrix XenApp version 5.x \n\ " } proc script::run { } { if { $tmsh::argc < 4 } { puts "Requires four arguments: you have not supplied via the command line. Problem this snippet solves: CRL files are signed lists of revoked serial numbers issued by a specific Certificate Authority (Verisign, Godaddy, GlobalSign, etc). There are several advanced methods of dealing with revoked certificates, the best of which is OCSP stapling. Other methods are OCSP responders or CRL Distribution Points. However, for small or internal projects, some administrators rely on simply using straight-up CRL files. After a time, the administrator will realize he or she needs to automate this process with a script. The administrator can automate this process on the BIG-IP itself with an iCall script. Here's a link to a great example of the iCall solution. However, some administrators many need to use a straight-up Linux device to pull and copy the CRL files around to many different devices, only one of which is the BIG-IP. How to use this snippet: This is a sample of a Linux script that pulls down a CRL file from GoDaddy, verifies it and then copies it to BIG-IP. Ensure that the Linux device can copy files directly to the BIG-IP via ssh-key authentication. Modify the 'f5' variable of the script to point to the BIG-IP. If not using GoDaddy, find the URL of the CRL file for the appropriate CA. If the 'ssl-crl' object hasn't been created on the BIG-IP yet, then it must be done manually the first time. Download the CRL, copy it to the BIG-IP's /var/tmp area. Then login to the BIG-IP and issue the following command: tmsh modify sys file ssl-crl gdcrl source-path file:/var/tmp/CRL After that, the script should work. Code : #!/bin/bash # # script to download a CRL from GoDaddy CA. # See this page for GoDaddy CRL information: # https://certs.godaddy.com/repository # Verify CRL # Convert CRL # Copy to BIG-IP # exit on error to prevent copying corrupt CRL to BIG-IP set -e f5=yourbigip.com f5port=22 crlurl=https://certs.godaddy.com/repository/mastergodaddy2issuing.crl gdcrturl=https://certs.godaddy.com/repository/gdig2.crt gdcrt=gdig2.crt echo "Automated CRL update Script" echo "Downloading from $crlurl" echo "Copying to ${f5}:${f5port}" echo "Last line should be SUCCESS" echo "---- GO ----" if [ ! -f $gdcrt ]; then echo "Fetching GoDaddy Certificate" curl $gdcrturl > $gdcrt fi cf=gdroot.crl last=last.crl if [ -f $cf ]; then if [ ! -s $cf ]; then echo "Found existing zero-length CRL file, deleting" rm -f $cf else echo "Found existing $cf - moving to backup" mv $cf $last fi fi echo "Downloading CRL file $cf" curl $crlurl > $cf echo "Testing $cf for readability" test -f $cf test -r $cf echo "Testing to see if $cf is zero length" test -s $cf if [ -f $last ]; then echo "Testing if $cf is newer than backup file $last" if [ ! $cf -nt $last ]; then echo "File not changed.
