Last week at #RSA2013, I had the good fortune to participate in a discussion panel with Symantec and Akamai (and others) discussing Symantec’s forthcoming support for elliptic curve cryptography (ECC).
F5 was invited because we terminate a good deal of the world’s SSL traffic, and any major industry change goes quicker when we support it. F5 intends to roll out support for ECC over the next few releases to smooth the way into the future.
Some of the highlights from the talk are:
ECC will facilitate the “Internet of Things”
ECC will reduce power consumption on smartphones, extending battery life for everyone
ECC will increase virtual machine density in the cloud, meaning less power consumed and more ecologically friendly Internet.
