Welcome to our Featured F5er series. This week we are spotlighting KevinGallaugher, an excellent contributor to our DevCentral community!
DevCentral: To start, please introduce yourself and tell our community a little bit about you. What you do and why is it important?
Kevin: My name is Kevin Gallaugher. I’ve worked at F5 for over 7 years in a Technical Marketing role. I focus on the following products:
SSL Orchestrator
F5 Insight for ADSP
BIG-IQ
Zero Trust Access (APM)
Advanced Firewall Manager (AFM)
DevCentral: As a Sr Technical Marketing Engineer, what is your typical workday like?
Kevin: If I have meetings they are most likely product-related. Either a regular, weekly meeting or a special meeting to discuss an upcoming release. I spend a lot of time testing different products so I can write a DevCentral article about it. A lot of my articles are “How to” in nature or highlight a new release.
DevCentral: Can you give us a glimpse into your technical expertise?
Kevin: I have a lot of hands-on, practical expertise. I worked for many years in a Technical Support role where I learned all about TCP, proxies, and Secure Web Gateway. I developed an ability to troubleshoot problems and spent many hours poring over pcaps in Wireshark. I enjoy working with new products and figuring out how to get them working. I’ve also worked for many years in a Technical Marketing role. I’m a product expert that works in Marketing, knows what the product can do, and helps others understand what it can do and how to configure it. I’ve spent a lot of time writing technical “How To” articles and creating demos to go along with these articles.
DevCentral: What’s the most exciting thing you’re working on right now?
Kevin: Probably F5 Insight for ADSP. It’s a new product we announced at AppWorld 2026 and it’s exciting to work on something new. It’s a great product because it helps so much with visibility into your F5 solutions.
DevCentral: How were you introduced to DevCentral?
Kevin: When I first started at F5 it was the one place to share technical information in an informal environment.
DevCentral: What inspires you to create technical articles and share knowledge with our DevCentral community?
Kevin: I like figuring out how to get something working. If I can do it, and then explain how to do it, then I figure most people will be able to follow along and do it too.
DevCentral: What does community mean to you?
Kevin: The internet is a vast web of communities. Some good and of course, some bad. To me, it’s all about sharing. I rely on many different communities to get help, so I hope my contributions to DevCentral will help at least one person.
DevCentral: What’s a challenge have you encountered and how did community help you? (Does not have to be the DevCentral Community)
Kevin: Fellow DevCentral contributor Mohamed Mahdy is one of the first people I go to when I need help with BIG-IP. We worked together on article about KASM Workspaces which is a VDI solution. Together, we both solved multiple problems that would have taken a lot longer to solve on our own. We all bring something a little different to the table and you never know who or what is going to get you to think about approaching a task from a different perspective.
DevCentral: What is a piece of advice you’ve received that has greatly impacted you?
Kevin: I can’t think of anything specifically but I’m a fan of the “10 Things That Require Zero Talent.” It’s a motivational-type sign you might see on LinkedIn. Things like being on time, being prepared, being easy to work with, etc. There’s a lot of simple but very practical advice there.
DevCentral: If you could instantly master any skill, what would it be?
Kevin: Horseback riding. I’ve become somewhat obsessed with horses and want to learn everything I can about them.
DevCentral: If you weren’t in your current profession what would be your dream job?
Kevin: I would be a DJ at a local radio station.
DevCentral: Which unconventional animal do you wish you could have as a pet?
Kevin: A horse. It may not be unconventional for many but it is for me.
DevCentral: Lastly, what drive you?
Kevin: I’m open to being wrong. It’s often a great way to learn something new.
