Changing f5 load balancing setup/config

Hi,

I would like to know if changing the current setup f5 load balancing priority group activation less than “1 available member” with Load balancing method “Ratio” into Load balancing method “Round Robin” with priority group activation disabled, will affect the current live traffics?

Hi Budi_Hi,

Changing the load balancing method and priority group activation on the pool won’t drop existing connections. Established connections stay on the pool member they’re already using, and the new settings apply only to new connections (new load-balancing decisions).

If you want all traffic redistributed right away, you can clear the existing connections to a specific pool member. First, check the current connections:

tmsh show /sys connection ss-server-addr <pool_member_ip> ss-server-port <pool_member_port>

Then delete them:

tmsh delete /sys connection ss-server-addr <pool_member_ip> ss-server-port <pool_member_port>

Displaying and deleting BIG-IP connection table entries from the command line

Note that this resets those active sessions, so I’d recommend doing it in a maintenance window

Note: I used IA to help with the translation.

The priority grouping is used in the section of a pool member by the load balancing algorithm. The load balancing algorithm is only used during the establishment / set up of a client connection.

Removing priority grouping or changing the load balancing algorithm should have no impact on established client connections.

Managing pool member established client connection when a pool member needs to be removed for maintenance.

When you disable a pool member. The established client connections will not be dropped. No new client connections will be sent to a disabled pool member. The idea is that you do not want a sudden drop of the established connections. You allow the established connections.to gratefully expire.

You can control what happens to the established client connections when you force a pool member offline. The “Action On Service Down” option controls what happens to established client connections.

You can also control how fast a pool member receives new client connections when its added back to a pool with the Slow Ramp Time pool setting.
