Win 10 and Server 2016 clients will not connect. Stuck on Initializing
A little more information:
We are a hosted Powerschool customer. The 2016 server runs a SQL database and uses the Big IP Edge Client to connect to the VPN Powerschool set up so we can connect to the Oracle database. Prior to June 28, 2025, the Big IP Edge client would connect to Powerschool's VPN and we could access the Oracle database directly. On June 28, Powerschool performed maintenance on their servers:
Reason for Maintenance:
PowerSchool will be conducting maintenance on the PowerSchool SIS, including F5 SSL VPN maintenance. During the F5 software upgrades, customers may be required to reestablish their VPN sessions. The application will be accessible most of the time during the maintenance window. However, customers may experience intermittent connectivity.
After the June 28 maintenance, the Edge client will no longer connect. We are not the only Powerschool customers affected. After opening a support ticket with Powerschool and having the issue escalated, Powerschool's recommendation is to upgrade the server to 2022. This is not a simple/quick task since our Server 2016 is running an SQL data and the vendor would need to reinstall their application on an upgraded server.
Powerschool support response:
Unfortunately, at this time, our recommended resolution is to upgrade to Windows Server 2022. I do know that our Hosting team is working with F5 to see if there may be another resolution. I will keep you posted on what they hear from the vendor. Below is a link to an article referencing the June 28, 2025, SSL VPN Reconnection required maintenance. In the comments, there was a customer who rolled the client back and was able to get the issue resolved, but I believe you already tried that.
