Why does Firepass change the 'hosts' file to bypass IE proxy?

Hi!     I'd like to know why Firepass manipulates the hosts file, rerouting the configured IE proxy. This has the annoying effect that I can't load external pages in IE, I have to use Firefox. ...

I'd recommend taking this one up with FirePass Tech Support. I'm not sure the reasons behind this, but as it's a general product question, and not something specific to customization/coding/etc., DevCentral probably isn't the best place to get answers.
